John Clare's Cottage

The cottage in which the poet John Clare was born and lived for many years came onto the market for the first time in living memory in 2005, and was bought by the John Clare Education & Environment Trust.
The Trust is restoring the cottage to its 18th century state to use as a celebration of Clare's work and life, and opening it to the public for the first time. The gardens will also be transformed, along with the charming 18th century dovecote adjacent to the cottage, and the whole is set to become a dynamic centre of outside-of-classroom learning as well as preserve an important piece of local and national heritage.
The Trust has recently been awarded a grant of £1.3 million to complete this work from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Read the HLF press release
