Helpston Church Choir
Helpston choir goes back many years, certainly predating by a long way the present choirmaster who took over in 1983! Our primary purpose is to enhance the worship at Sunday services - all but the less formal Family Service on the third Sunday of the month. We practice every Friday 7-8 p.m. except the Fridays after Christmas and Easter and during August. We don't do concerts - we haven't got the time!
Our members range from 7 to 70+ in age and our numbers have remained fairly constant at around 20 over the years. We are fortunate in having all four parts available most Sundays, soprano, alto, tenor and bass, which means we can tackle a good part of the church's vast musical riches. Indeed our repertoire is currently well over a hundred anthems not to mention numerous Christmas Carols etc. and is still growing.
As with so many organisations these days we suffer from the innumerable counter attractions of modern life and it is a tribute to our dedicated members that we can manage an anthem most Sundays. However, we are always looking for new members. Even if you can't attend every week you could still make a valuable contribution and help us fly a little less close to the wind! We always practice anthems for several weeks in advance so if you miss the occasional week you won?et be seriously disadvantaged.
If you would like to join us in maintaining this important dimension to worship at Helpston please do contact me for further details or come along on a Friday evening and try your luck.
